Topic: Open House with Live Ham Radio Demos

Start Time ... 7.30 p.m
Talk in Repeater is VE3KSR 146.970 - 146.370

The Kitchener Waterloo Amateur Radio Club will be hosting an open house to the public during the Feb 7 meeting. There will be displays of radio equipment working, and literature that people can take with them if there interested in joining this exciting hobby. We are looking forward to all our members in helping to explain the joys of amateur radio, and to answer any questions that someone may have about what it takes to become a ham. We will be setting up several HF antenna's as well as 2/440/6 metre gear and antenna's from a mobile tower, so our guests can hear first hand, local and possible DX calls.

If you know of someone who has expressed interest in becoming a ham, bring him/her to the meeting on Feb 7 as our guest, and introduce them to ham radio.

Any members that have a extensive collection of QSL cards, or boat anchor equipment, are invited to bring out and display these proud possessions. Our business meeting will follow the open house, with brief announcements of last months activities. Please come early to help set up, if you are able. To my knowledge, we have never had an open house to the public, so now our chance to "boast our hobby" and the great time we have as hams.

For our regular March 6 meeting, our popular "show and Tell" will return, giving members a chance to explain some new or interesting experience, a recent Christmas gadget, or possible a project that they have been working on. So get your thinking caps on, as this event in the past was very popular and enjoyable. To reserve a spot for the "show and tell" please send me an e mail, with your name, and your presentation, va3bny@rac.ca

Hope to see all the members at this open house.

Talk To The World

JOIN US
Plan to join us at our Open House at the 404 Wing on Dutton Drive in Waterloo.

FEBRUARY 7th 2000
7:30 – 9:30pm

The Kitchener-Waterloo Amateur Radio Club (KWARC) was first founded in 1922 just two short years after the World’s first radio Station KDKA went on the air from Pittsburgh Pennsylvania.   In the mid 1930s, the Ham Radio clubs from Galt and Guelph joined with the Kitchener Club to become the Progressive Radio Club.  We’ve come a long way since then and we encourage you to join us on February 7th  to learn more about this great hobby.

OUR MEETINGS
KWARC presents top class speakers who present informative sessions from all areas of our hobby. Our Program Director continues to maintain the same high caliber lineups in the 1999-2000 year.

REPEATERS
KWARC provides it’s members 4 voice repeaters as well as access to the world wide packet network. A 911 Open Phone Patch service is offered on most repeaters providing peace of mind while our members traverse the Region. Optional full patch privileges provides local telephone calling which is now enjoyed by almost 70% of our membership.  And now with extended reciprocal agreements with Brantford and Simcoe, your Patch value goes even further.

KILOWATTER
KWARC deliver a quality publication on-time each month has been met and will continue to be a priority.  Today KWARC serves over 150 members from the KW area with monthly meetings and newsletter as well as this extensive web site.

THE ULR NETWORK
All KWARC members also enjoy the use of the ULR network which links VE3KSR with most major centers in Southern Ontario. Now with a handheld radio you can talk to your buddy in downtown Kingston, Toronto, Collingwood, Kincardine and many more locations in the province.

PACKET RADIO
KWARC and the clubs packet group provide access to the world wide packet network. Through the generosity of Tedd Dodda VE3TJD, KWARC members also enjoy the services of the VA3ASED BBS and other packet BBS stations around the world.

BEGINNERS CLASSES
Each Winter KWARC provides a beginners class providing a teaching environment to anyone wishing to become a Radio Amateur. Our pass rate has averaged over 90%. demonstrating the caliber of instruction from our dedicated instructors.  At a cost of $100.00 including tuition and all books.  With a licence in hand, a good used 2 metre radio can be purchased for under $200 making Ham Radio an exceptional value for such an exciting hobby.

THE World Wide Web
On September 1st 1996, we entered Cyberspace with the inauguration of the KWARC web site.  This addition to KWARC services has been visited by amateurs and interested parties around the world over 60,000 times .
