The February Open House
by Paul Cassel VE3SY

The February meeting hosted the clubs first Open House program that saw over two dozen visitors see first hand the various forms of Ham Radio in live operation.

Dave Schwartz VA3DGS hosted the APRS packet demonstration showing how ham radio can be used for tracking vehicles in real-time.  Dave was responsible for the creation and interfacing of the clubs weather station to our web site presenting real time weather reporting

President Dave VA3MRJ found these two visitors very interested in the hobby with both of them registering for the course starting this month.

Joe VE3VXO demonstrated several of his home brew projects including this 24 gHz rig only one of two in existence in Ontario.  Joe is also an active CW QRP operator and was also showing modules.

John VE3VRA received a lot of interest from Guides and Scouts with his CW rig. Several of the guides and scouts spent some time practicing their CW which is a credit they can earn.  See inset picture.

Club QSL Manager Gord Gibson VE3NQK displayed club QSL cards from many countries around the world for club call VE3IC.

The clubs 20 CW Field Day team Bob VA3MCK (left) and Walter VE3NEI (r) spent some time demonstrating CW to the visitors.  There was more interest in the CW station than the SSB set-up shown in the opposite picture being operated by John Riddell VE3AMZ.

President Dave VA3MRJ and the club members who participated are to be congratulated for an excellent job at planning, advertising and executing the evening of high profile publicity for the club and our hobby.
