April 3, 2000 MEETING

Our April 3 meeting will be very exciting, with a special Guest that will speak and demo alternative power sources for every application.

Wind generators and solar power have been developed to a point that they now are very practical for use in homes, mobile sites, and remote locations. Our special guest will be Weazel McCreath VE3EAR of Goderich Ontario.

Weazle runs a business in Goderich that specializes in this energy field and has been a ham since the spring of 1968. His major ham related interests have been building antennas and home brewing.

He had a passing interest in solar and wind power for years but it wasn't until a friend, and ultimately business partner, Al Ball purchased some R.E. equipment that Weazel really got into it.

The VE3EAR shack is powered by 150 watts of solar panels and 400-watt wind generator.

His business was formed in the spring of 1998 and has since grown from just an idea on paper into the real thing. There are four partners in the company with aviation being the common interest that got them together. Al and Jake are both an aircraft maintenance engineer, Sam is a flight school owner, and Weazel is an Avionics Technician.

His presentation will be on the many aspects of alternative power. I'm sure that some people would like to know what is involved in powering a shack from renewable energy sources, while others may want details of installing solar panels and windmills.

Their web site is www.solwind.on.ca  for anyone that would like to take a look at some pictures of their products and what the guys do.

This is sure to be a great informative meeting and Weazel is looking forward to meeting the members of our club.
