The Kitchener Waterloo Amateur Radio Club has two club events left this year. The upcoming Field Day and the Fleamarket. Both these events require the participation of our members as volunteers and participants. Rich (ve3dcc) will be asking for volunteers to help with parking at the Fleamarket and already has an impressive list of members who have volunteered to help. If you are able to assist with these events please make yourself known to
Rich or Dave.
When leaving work tonight I was placing a portable antennae on the trunk of my car when a fellow walking by asked if I was an Amateur radio operator. Well that sure opened up the conversation, he has a scanner and listens to the local repeaters. What followed was a discussion on local repeater sites and what stations were on the air. This chap was quite knowledgeable about our operations which surprised me since I assumed only hams would have an interest in repeaters. Maybe when we are saying our 73's after a long QSO maybe we should acknowledge the short wave listener from time to time.
The election of the board of directors is fast approaching. The club secretary, John Holman is unable to continue on the board and I will move to the position of past president. Ben (va3bny) has also announced his well earned retirement from the board as entertainment chairman. The nominating committee will be seeking replacements for positions on the board and I invite anyone interested to let one of the directors know so we can add your name to the ballot.
