KSR Goes QRX
For A Few
by John Riddell, VE3AMZ

On June 3, 2000, KWARC removed all of the antenna's from the short tower at Baden. As a result, VE3KSR, the ULR link system and the packet node VE3KSR-0 will be off the air for a period of time. We were requested to vacate the tower ASAP since it will be taken down this month in order that a new 700 foot tower be constructed for CKCO-TV.

We hope to have both VE3KSR repeater and the packet VE3KSR-0 working on a temporary antenna for the next few months. The coverage will be reduced dramatically but there will be some "service" available.  Until we try the path to ULR we are not sure if the ULR system will be available during the temporary phase.

The six metre repeater, VE3SED, will remain on the air for a few days until the co-ax is removed from the large tower.

Our best guess is that both will be back on in a few days depending on time required to get other antenna's up and working.

The work was completed by Mike Oberle of Oberle towers in Cambridge, and the helpers were: John VE3SJV, Frank VE3OFH Ben VA3BNY, and John VE3AMZ.

Coffee was delivered by "courier" (VE3SJV) compliments of Tedd, VE3TJD who had to work in his store and was unable to be there.

Dave Melse, the Engineering Mgr from CKCO dropped by to watch the work in progress.

We will be back on the air with full coverage this fall when the new tower is completed.

Watch this web site for further news or connect to packet VA3SED BBS for updates on this work.
