Meeting Our
Guest for September's Monday meeting will be the Manager of Central and
Western Ontario for Industry Canada, Mr. Rick Hergott, Manager, Spectrum
Industry Canada, Kitchener.
Rick spoke to us in January 1998 about many pending changes at that time and now that Industry Canada has announced changes and pending changes, Rick will hold an informal talk on policies affecting the new Family Radio Service (FRS) , Frequency Auctions, Spectrum Redeployment, Amateur Radio. This will be an open dialogue - so fire away Rick says. Rick is a graduate of Conestoga College, Doon Campus where he graduated in 1976 as a Electronic Engineering Technologist. He joined the then Department of Communications (DOC) in 1976 at the Radio Inspector Level in the Toronto District Office. Being a native of Waterloo, Rick was pleased when he was transferred to the then DOC Kitchener office in 1977 where he has moved through the ranks to become the Branch Manager. As the Branch Manager of Spectrum Rick manages and participates in the operational aspects of the spectrum management program and the spectrum client consultation, information and public relations program, supervises staff, performs other related duties, all under the authority of the Radiocommunication Act and in compliance with the Telecommunications and Broadcasting Act. In the position of Radio Inspector he is responsible for the day to day functions of the various duties encompassing spectrum management. This includes licensing, spectrum control, examinations, client information sessions, and the training of staff. Tnx de Ben VA3BNY
