Baden Update
by Ben VA3BNY Tech Director

During a recent trip to Baden Hill we had an opportunity to witness how bare the old tower seems to be getting. Many of the antenna's have been moved to the new tower, while others have been just abandoned due to old age, or poor design, only to find eventually, there doom in the scrap metal pile.

The new KOOL FM antennas have arrived and have been assembled at the base of the tower, as shown in the above photograph, looking like something that may have been used in outer space. The new design should provide superior coverage for the radio station and will be in place shortly.

Most impressive is the super structure of the new CKCO-TV tower it self. I managed to capture a few pictures that only a few people will ever have the opportunity too ever see.

One can only guess at the total weight of this structure when completed, but for certain, the new tower will become a landmark in the Kitchener area and a proud symbol of CKCO-TV.

As amateur guests on this tower, I feel that there will be many clubs just envious of our new equipment and the superior coverage KWARC is providing. Our partnership and the generosity and support of CKCO-TV for the past 30 years has made this site one of the best in Ontario.

At the November 7 2000 club meeting, members viewed several pictures and listened to the details of the success of this installation.

Pictured here are some of the members of the team that made this all possible.
