Minutes of the Mar 6th /2001 general meeting of the Kitchener Waterloo Amateur radio Club.

Dr. Robert McKie VA3MCK called the meeting to order at 7:45 pm, 15 minutes late due to the poor driving conditions. He warmly greeted 30 members and guests in attendance.

After the customary introductions of all members and guests, the program chairman Ben Sasiela VA3BNY introduced the guest speaker Ralph Cameron VE3BBM.

The topic of the evening was the famous Jack Revenscroft Case, which was presented in detail using a combination of overhead and computer generated video.

The case involved amateur radio operator Jack Revenscroft of Ottawa who was accused of radio interference He was ultimately sued by his neighbour who contended his various appliances were behaving strangely when Jack operated his amateur radio station. The interference continued even after Jack's radio equipment was removed from his home and kept in Ralph's possession. It was thought perhaps a local cb'er might have been the culprit.

Sadly to say, Jack passed away shortly after the cased was resolved. He will be remembered by all of us.

Our program chairman presented Ralph a certificate of appreciation, which he gratefully accepted.

At 9:30 coffee break was called with coffee and donuts served.

President Bob called the meeting to order at 9:45 and called on any one with announcements.

Ron Gimbel VE3DVD, advised us about the ham courses being offered.

Linda Hayward VA3LWH mentioned that the Saturday breakfasts would be held at Angles dinner 8:30-9:00 am.

Ben Sasiela VA3BNY announced that next month Paul Cassel VE3SY would be next month's speaker. The topic will be EQSL service, which stands for electronic QSL service. Have a look at www.eqsl.cc . This looks to be an exciting evening, don't miss it !

Ben also announced that Bill Graham VE3ETK will become program chairman in September.

President Bob closed the meeting at 9:52 pm. after announcing the executive board meeting will be held Tuesday March 6th.

The up and coming expenses were hall rental ($350.00) and field day ($150.00).

Paul discussed a repeater linking system called IRLP. He said there are 60 nodes on the air. A dedicated Internet connection is required as well as software (<$200.00)
The VE3RBM repeater was suggested to be used and Paul said he would bear the cost of the project.

A motion to proceed on IRLP experimentation was moved by Paul and seconded by Dave.

Ben gave the tech report.  He said field day would again be held at Doon Pioneer Village.  An email was sent and a favourable reply was received from them. They said they would advertise the Field Day weekend for us.   Volunteer seniors will be admitted free of charge. It will be held the 4th full weekend in June. It will start at noon Saturday June 23rd and run to 1:00 pm Sunday June 24th.
