IRLP.
He explained the Internet Radio Linking Project system and how signals
move from radio to repeater to Internet and back out at the other end.
Paul then moved on to how the technical set-up at his QTH works and interacts with VE3RBM, and took us to the IRLP website (www.irlp.net) where we could see the status of each of the presently 86 repeaters on the system. In the next phase we had a live demonstration (using a 440 hand held) of contacts through a Reflector, where several hams can be chatting at the same time. Some lively interchanges occurred covering a wide area of the United States. In turn, Paul demonstrated a one to one QSO with Clem J73CI a ham on Dominica in the Caribbean who was mobile. An active Question and Answer period followed, which we hope will
encourage many KWARC hams to use the system. The IRLP system is a
major breakthrough for amateurs, the likes of which we have not seen
since VHF FM came to ham radio. With it we also have, for the
first time, a way that hams with a Basic License can make out of country
contacts, and gain experience and encouragement to go for the Advanced
License while actually making indirect DX contacts. 73 |
