The President's Report
by Bob McKie VA3MCK president@kwarc.org

Well this has been a very exciting year!!! Baden Hill is up and running well:  Mannheim is operating well and we have launched two new enterprises this year: a new simplex repeater for the NASA link; the IRLP link to ve3rbn.

Thanks to the Technical Committee: Ben va3bny;Tedd ve3tjd;Frank ve3ofh;Terry ve3nej. Much was also owed to our previous Technical Director, John ve3amz. We owe Paul ve3sy a special thanks for the IRLP connection as well as the webmaster.

We have developed new steps in the Emergency Services under Ed ve3tck, along with Robert ve3zlv and Ron va3tvs.There will be a Canwarn training at UoW May 28,2001 . Please bring a donation to the Food Bank , or to the next KWARC meeting.

I am recovering from Dayton!!! I went down with Tedd ve3tjd and Dave va3mrj. Dave drove. We had his IC706 for VHF/UHF and HF. Left noon Thursday and got there 7:00 pm.

Fri am was OK. Met John ve3amz and his lovely wife, (this was their 25th Dayton), Don ve3dwm, and Mark ve3mwh for lunch at Applebees. Rained like the tail end of a storm. Cleared by mid afternoon. We went back to the motel to recuperate. (I slept till 7:00pm). Dinner with the same 7 next two days. Met John ve3ovo and son.  Tedd insisted we eat next dinners at Ryan's smorgasbord!!! We left noon Sun and arrived home about 7:00pm

Was an amazing experience. About 30,000 hams worldwide, and 3,000 or so tailgaters.  About 6 rows of tents in L shaped configuration (each arm about 1mile) around a huge building consisting of an arena with another equal building and another equal added on.  They had electric golf carts inside the grounds but had to walk a mile from parking lot to get to it.  (Tedd and Dave drove me to the gates, but the walking is a killer). Actually it was easier walking around seeing displays than up here. Just farther and more tiring on the legs!!! Tedd and Dave were wonderful to travel with and took great care of me.

Well this is my last column. I would certainly like to thank the Executive, the Committee Chairs and members, Marg ve3re on bereavement, Harry ve3eix and Hugh ve3iyg greeting at the door and Central Ontario Hamfest co chairs with Guelph. Fred ve3oqb field day chair. Dennis va3dlt editor Kilowatter. I would like to express my thanks to the many members of kwarc who have been assisting me this year and for giving me the opportunity  to be on such a splendid executive.

I should like to express a special thanks to Paul Cassel ve3sy who graciously accepted my request to attend the kwarc executive meetings in an advisory capacity to give us direction with past events, and present undertakings.

It is with  a happy feeling of accomplishment that I shall turn the executive over to our new President, Dennis Tabbert va3dlt.  I am sure you will give him the same degree of support you have given me. Thank you and Solonge y var.

Sincerely, Bob McKie VA3MCK President
