Members may have been expecting that most of the photography seen in the Record would have originated from a digital camera however, unlike it's sister papers in Vancouver and Calgary, The Record still relies on good old film and prints. Record Photo Editor Brian Clark VE3ULQ, indicated that as a result of his $1,200 budget into digital photography he is still the Record's photo-editor a claim that can not longer be made by "the former" photo editor of the Vancouver Sun after expending $250,000 to bring digital photography to his paper.
The Record was the first Canadian paper to venture into digital imaging starting off with early Macintosh computers and still manages a network of 91 more modern Macintosh computers today. The Mac's are all networked together allowing editors to choose from amoungst thousands of digital wire-photos every day. Today, The Record uses their Kodak DC120 for studio head-shots and for pre-viewing studio still-life type set ups. Brian stated that the price-performance curve is still not competitive enough for a move the a full digital paper.
By the number and quality of questions being asked, there was no question that interest was very high amoungst the membership. A quick review of attendees indicated that the high turnout was due in part to the topic on digital photography. ed.
