CANWARN/ARES TRAINING & REFRESHER COURSE
With the effects of El Nino creating major changes to all parts of North America, it is imperative that KWARC take an active roll in assisting Randy, Environment Canada, and the residents of Waterloo Region. Environment Canada will be conducting a spotters training session on Monday April 20, 1998 7:30 PM at St. Andrew's Church (corner Weber & Queen St. Kitchener). In the back door,turn right and up the stairs, through the door and into the Library on your left. K-W, Cambridge, Brantford, Guelph, Fergus, and Stratford Amateurs are invited. Some of these areas have training with other groups, but if you are unable to attend your area's training feel free to attend. We are in for a severe weather season if the El Nino weather we are currently experiencing as expected affects the warmer weather. New CanWarn spotters, and retraining for those of you already trained is very important. Some Regional government and media representatives are also being invited so they can better understand just how important the CANWARN program is to the safety of the communities. We will cover Traffic handling, emergency preparedness, and our role in a Regional disaster. All KWARC members and those from surrounding clubs are welcome to attend. A short exercise will be held on Sunday April 26th. to test coverage (repeater and direct throughout the KW area. Call in on KSR 146.97 - @ 1:30 PM. Discussion of results over coffee after (about 2:30 - 3:00).
