CQ CQ CQ CYCLONE '98
Calling all amateurs looking for great FUN operating VHF/UHF communications, fellowship, laughter, and
good food.
by Greg Hollinger VE3NXB
As you are probably aware, the Kitchener-Waterloo Amateur Radio Club (KWARC) was involved with communications for the first ever
CYCLONE bicycle tour last spring through the lovely countryside and communities of south-western Ontario.
The week long event, saw a half dozen amateurs from the KW and Stratford areas come together to provide emergency communication to
support nearly 300 bicyclists from all regions of Ontario and the north-east United States.
The event is a highly organized tour, not a bicycle race, that covers 75 kilometers each day in a relaxed setting. Evenings are exciting
with many activities underway as CYCLONE CITY,
a tent city appears in a high school or community college athletic field within the
host community.
Last year, as communicators, we were singled out in a written survey, to receive the most praise as THE MOST PROFESSIONAL AND VITAL
SUPPORT GROUP for the participants. This year we want to maintain the praise and offer all interested amateurs the opportunity to
participate in one of lifes most rewarding activities, that of service to the public; our reason for being.
