Last Months Meeting

Our own club Program Director Ben Sasiela VA3BNY, changed hats and took the club on a tour of "Those Hidden HF Signals".

Utilizing a very detailed computer generated video presentation, Ben gave demonstrations on weather fax reception, as well as listening to aircraft position reporting, automated broadcasts, and atmospheric updates in both voice and data formats.

Ben was plagued somewhat with hydro noise due to the light rain on the 500kva lines running over the 404 Wing Meeting room however there were sufficient breaks in the noise for him to decode some live weather data.

Ben showed members how to build a low cost demodulator and interface it with almost any HF rig or short-wave receiver.

A full list of frequencies used by Trans-Atlantic aircraft, military and weather stations from around the world were presented on the large screen. Anyone who was not able to jot down any frequencies or details on the building of the demodulator, can contact Ben at 748-9176 or by Packet at va3bny@va3sed. If it is still on the BBS, Message # 39107 contained all of the frequencies given by Ben. Several of the more popular frequencies are listed below. ALL ARE USB.
