Emergency Services Group
I am pleased to announce the appointment of Ed Spike VE3TCK to the newly create position of Chairman, Emergency Services. Ed has a long history of service to KWARC as well as many other community services including the Scouting movement. Ed will bring excellent leadership to the newly formed Emergency Services Committees within KWARC.

Ed will be responsible for overseeing the following committees; Amateur Radio Emergency Services (ARES) under the direction of John Schreiter VE3DOS, CANWARN under the leadership of Fred Hicks VE3MTS and our annual Field Day guided this year by club Vice President Dave Schwartz VA3DGS.

With the severe unsettled weather expected this summer, this newly formed Emergency organization will no doubt have its work cut out for it. However it can only be a success with your help. Please volunteer one or two evenings to some basic traffic handling and weather spotting training so you can help your community when we are called on.

The Kilowatter
My thanks to this month to Roger Sanderson VE3RKS for finalizing this issue of the Kilowatter by adding late breaking news and events. Also this month, the Kilowatter has two other contributors who should be recognized.

Dave Allen VE3DUA for a story on his 1957 Summer Job as an Air Radio Operator in the Arctic and Bill Graham VE3ETK for part 2 of his electronic trivia quiz. Bill did not have many participants in the first quiz so please don't let Bill down this time. Send him a note by her Majesty's Royal Mail (Canada Post now), or by e-mail and save the 45 cents. This time Bill did not send the answers with the questions so I was also able to play the game. I was able to answer about 15 of the twenty so I issue a challenge to everyone to exceed my submission.

Paul Cassel VE3SY
KWARC President
