The Spring meeting of Chapter 73, Southern Ontario was held on May 2 at The Plainsman Restaurant on Hwy # 5 in Dundas. A total of 98 members and guests attended.

A moment of silence was held to remember silent keys who passed away since the Fall meeting last October, Jack Martin VE3AXU, C.F. (Cookie) Cooke VE3DTB, Fred Owen VE3DMQ, Jim Tazzeo VE3TQ and Dr. Douglas Dorsey VE3DMD.

President Earl Mann, VE3PTF welcomed and introduced new members Gord Moogk VE3DBP and Dave Stevens VE3NN who attended. New members Peter Solly VE3AD, Doug Campbell VA3DC and Larry Parker VE3EHY were unable to attend.

President Earl Mann reported that the committee formed to do a Feasibility Study on the possibility of Chapter 73 submitting a proposal to host a future International QCWA Convention in Toronto, agreed on a preference to proceed providing sufficient support from the membership could be found. The committee was asked to identify the required personnel and make a decision with in 60 days. If sufficient willing assistance is identified, the committee was voted authorization to proceed with a proposal to QCWA Headquarters. Further details will be in the next Newsletter to be mailed in late Summer.

Croft Taylor VE3CT (Canadian Director & Vice -President elect) gave his report on recent Board of Director's activities and spoke in favor of Chapter 73 hosting a Convention in Canada.

Dana Shtun VE3DSS (Radio Amateurs of Canada,- Regional Director) gave his report on RAC activities and the areas RAC is actively pursuing such as IARU Region II conference, RAC's involvement in the Amateur Station on the International Space Station as well as the RAC web site. Amateurs will find lots of current news and useful information. Feedback has been received indicating the site is one of the best organizational sites available to Amateurs.

Tom Atkins VE3CDM, President of IARU Region II who was to be the guest speaker was unable to attend, having just returned from an IARU meeting in Senegal and suffering with a flu bug.

George Roach VE3BNO of Ottawa, a candidate for the position of Director was introduced and spoke briefly requesting support in the up coming election.

Paul Cassel VE3SY asked for assistance from anyone in tracking down the early history of the Kitchener-Waterloo Amateur Radio Club for the years 1923-1939.Anyone with information can contact Paul directly or through the Chapter.

Ray Baker VE3CZN suggested an e-mail address directory be made available. Members are asked to forward their e-mail address to the Secretary/Treasurer.

George Spencer VE3AGS was appointed Net Control Station for the 75 Metre Chapter Net held Sunday mornings at 9:00 AM on 3,773 Khz. A motion was made thanking Don Reynolds VE3DAR for his many years of dedicated service as Net Control of the 75 Metre Net. Since relocating to Exeter Don has been unable to get on the air.

It was agreed to discontinue the 40 Metre Net at this time due to lack of interest.

After the sumptuous lunch the meeting concluded with the usual array of door prizes provided by the efforts Fred Hammond VE3HC and his group.

The next meeting will be on Oct 17,1998 at The Plainsman.
