ARES INFO

NEXT TRAINING
Our second ARES (Amateur Radio Emergency Services) training session will be held Thursday September 17th. 7:30 PM at the Mutual Life building Waterloo. There will be a sign in sheet at the security desk. Training will be in the Tamarack room on the 8th floor. There are signs off the elevator.

We will cover Traffic handling, emergency preparedness, and our role in a Regional disaster. All KWARC members and those from surrounding clubs are welcome to attend.

Oktoberfest Bike Rally
The K-W ARES group will be providing communications needs for the Oktoberfest Bike Rally on Sunday October 11, 1998.

Eight to ten operators will be required. Location is Wilson Park in the south end of Kitchener. Time 9 AM - 3PM. More details to follow. Other area ARES groups are welcome to participate.

Waterloo Region Emergency Exercise
The Waterloo Emergency planner has advised the ARES Emergency Coordinator that the Regional Emergency plan will be tested on Tuesday October 27, 1998.

I have few details at this time, but check this page for updates. This will be an all day exercise, testing all aspects of Waterloo Region's Emergency plan. It will involve all groups that would respond, and provide assistance during a disaster in the Regional Municipality of Waterloo. This is the most important exercise for our ARES group that you could assist with, other than a real disaster. Plan to attend if at all possible, even if it means taking a day off work.

The last Regional exercise was a great success, lets make this one even better, and show what we can provide. More details to follow as they become available.

I have more brochures available for ARES members to give your employer a good idea of the type of assistance, and importance you would play in your community in the event of a disaster in the area such as the Ice Storm of 1998. The brochure describes ARES, CANWARN etc., and may assist your employer in seeing the benefit of allowing the day off to assist. Contact John Schreiter VE3DOS for a brochure, and your availability for the exercise.

The call out tree will be used, and all aspects of the exercise will be run as though this it was the real thing. Other area ARES groups wishing to participate are welcome. Please advise John if you plan to be involved.

We require volunteers to assist with communications. If you can attend any of these sessions please contact our ARES EC John Schreiter VE3DOS at 748-4871 or by e-mail at ares@kwarc.org
