As a great summer comes to a close it is time to get our fall activities moving forward. As you can see for the cover page our Program Director Ben VA3BNY has lined up another excellent series of meetings. As well, we plan on offering tours of interest throughout the season. Stay tuned for more information on these tours.

Keith VE3IZW
As you will read elsewhere in this issue, we are sad to report the passing of long term member and Past President Keith Campbell VE3IZW. Keith served as club President during the 1980-81 season. Those who attended our meetings last year will recall Keith's smiling face greeting all members and visitors at the door. He will be missed. Keith's wife Doreen and daughters Charlene and Jennifer wish to pass on their sincere thanks for those who paid their respects and for the flowers sent on behalf of the KWARC membership.

Fred VE3HC
As you will have read earlier in this issue, KWARC's only Honorary Member Fred Hammond VE3HC suffered a severe stroke on June 21st at his home. His recovery process will require a lot of stimulation from his friends who should make a point of visiting Fred on a regular basis. I would suggest that you take a QSL card along and a piece of Scotch Tape to fasten to the locker beside his bed.

Sargeant-At-Arms
I am pleased to report that our new greeter or Sergeant-at Arms will be Roy FisherVE3RDF. I consider this very important position critical to assuring that new members and visitors are recognized. Prior to Keith and Bill VE3IAP greeting attendees, the club had received numerous complaints from previous members who indicated they were ignored when attending our meetings and did not feel part of the club. I urge all members to go up and introduce yourself to anyone you do not recognize. The person may be a new member or a first time visitor or a long time member. Regardless the experience will be rewarding not only for the other party but for yourself as well. Try it and see. Maybe we should experiment with a secret guest similar to Rotary Meetings. This person makes note of everyone who does not shake hands prior to the meeting and then those members are fined a nominal amount. Comments on this idea are welcome.

220 Repeater
Over the past few years numerous club members have indicated their displeasure at the expenditure and apparent method at which the clubs 220 Repeater was acquired and financed. I know I was very surprised to learn that the clubs $1,500 GIC had been cashed to pay for the approximately $1,300 cost overrun. At the moment the repeater is working 100% and represents an asset to the club however with only 3-4 KWARC members using the repeater should the repeater fail the question has been raised whether we would spend monies to repair same. A notice of interest was sent out via packet seeking offers on the repeater. Several were received and your executive has recommended that one of these offers be accepted. In all fairness to the supporters of the 220 repeater, they will be given an opportunity at Monday's meeting to seek support for not selling the repeater. The Executive will proceed with the sale if we receive at least a two-thirds majority support of members in attendance.

I look forward to meeting everyone at the meeting Monday night

de Paul VE3SY, President
KWARC President
