PACKETEERING @ KWARC
by Larry Gorman VE3LGN

The Packet group is looking to taking on some new directions at our monthly gatherings. A dozen of us met Oct 5 (always the day after the KWARC monthly meeting) in the comfortable surroundings of the Ratz-Bechtel hospitality facility to catch up on events of the summer hiatus.

Various ideas for projects and activities were discussed over refreshments, provided courtesy of our hosts. Some of the ideas included assembly of a TNC, an 2 metre beam antenna design suitable for using the anticipated increase in Meteor scatter activity, a lightning arrestor. Brainstorming brought up the idea of a packet "fox hunt". By consensus we finally settled on a portable 2 metre antenna design that would be useful and straight forward to construct.

Larry VE3LGN suggested that the Group could supply seed money to get a project started if needed. There was general agreement that we should stick with easily completed projects, and that those involved would pay for materials used.

Gord VE3EOS has subsequently made some materials purchases at his favorite surplus depot in TO. We will decide where/when to proceed at our upcoming meeting Tuesday Nov 2 @ 7.30. At this meeting we plan to have a packet station, courtesy of Harold VE3DWH,set up to investigate some of Ted's VE3SED Bulletin Board System commands, and to demonstrate packet and the Baycom TNC to interested parties. We may attempt some node hopping as well. All interested parties are invited to attend. Parking is close and we are wheel chair accessible.
