KWARC Members Tour Airport Control Tower
by ben VA3BNY

The Kitchener Waterloo Amateur Radio Club had a bird eye view recently visiting the control tower at the Waterloo Regional Airport facilities and aircraft Some 20 amateurs enjoyed the guided tour through the complex by air traffic controller Doug Green of NavCanada, who explained the various communication equipment, and emergency backup facilities at the tower.

The highlight of the tour included a trip to the top of the tower where aircraft movement is handled in this area. Club members had a opportunity to ask questions and see suffocated aviation equipment used by the controllers to communicate with air traffic, determine direction of receiving signals as well as instrument landing systems used by aircraft on final approach to the airport.

The tour lasted several hours and ended over coffee at the airport restaurant. Pictured here left to right is KWARC Treasurer Greg Hollinger VE3NXB, Club QSL Manager Gord Gibson VE3NQK, and SYSOP Tedd Doda VE3TJD with the Jr. Op.

The Kitchener Amateur Radio Club wishes to express its gratitude to Doug Green and all of the controllers for there wonderful hospitality in making this visit so interesting.
