CQ  Beta Testers

KWARC Member Looking for Volunteer Software Testers

Bob Rushby, VE3GLA, is developing a rig control program for MFJ (Bob is the author of MFJ’s MultiCom for Windows TNC control program).

This new program, which should be completed in early 1999, lets hams use their PC to control their Kenwood and Icom transceivers (Yaesu support will come later). Some program features are:

  • Multiple VFO’s (more than the one or two that most rigs have built-in)
  • Digital and analog frequency displays
  • Memory "tags" that show special frequencies on the analog display
  • Memory database: unlimited storage of favourite frequencies.
  • Support for short-wave listening:
  • One button selection of shortwave broadcast, HF marine, and HF aviation bands
  • Intelligent frequency steps: 5khz for broadcast, 3khz for aviation, 3.1khz for marine
  • Intelligent split frequency operation (frequency offset, or specific frequency)
  • International DX Beacon network support

Bob needs testers to help him test different radios, particularly Kenwood and Icom rigs. Bob would like to bring his laptop PC and radio interface to your shack for 2-3 hours. With your permission, he’d hook the interface to your radio and test his program. If you have your own interface, he’d leave you a copy of the program for you to use and test further (you’d have to promise not to give anyone a copy of it).

If you’re interested, contact Bob at rushby@sprynet.com
