PACKETEERING @KWARC |
<Connect
To> <VE3KWQ> (CR) <c_VA3SED> (CR) ciVA3SKN....Accessing QRZ Database.......(who is this?) Along with a few new faces in the group, we gathered around to watch the packet demonstration. VE3DWH proceeded to put his trusty Yaesu 208 (1981 vintage) hand-held through its paces. Over the years Harold has scrounged the flea markets to come up with his packet gear. While 5 watts are available 2 watts output were more than adequate to bring up the answer to the question. Ken, who supplied his home brew "J-Pole in a tube", connected it to the TNC. A retired XT laptop that came Harolds way during one of his Fleamarket forays serves as an ideal monitor. Only the Baycom TNC is of this decade! Each summer he relocates to his cottage on Lake Huron. Until there is a midway node, VE3IJD BBS near Owen Sound serves as his connection. Harold says that he needs to remember that the local VA3SED BBS must be re-established once he returns home. Otherwise mail becomes "dead lettered" for the duration. Harold was quick to point out that he is still a novice @ packeteering. He mostly scans the For Sale bulletins and uses the mail service to keep in touch with his QCWA associates. However the new packeteers had all their questions answered satisfactorily. We ended the evening with an update on our Antenna projects and refreshments, courtesy of our hosts. We are hoping to have an Antenna theory and practice presentation at the next meeting, from one of our local "experts". Packet get-togethers are held the first Tuesday after the monthly KWARC meeting @Ratz-Bechtel Family Centre. Something to think about .Is your packet system Y2K ready?
