Sentenced in Peterborough

On December 22, 1998, Christopher
Watson of Peterborough (former radio amateur) entered pleas of guilty to
the second and third counts :
Count 2:
And further that Christopher Watson on or
between September 13th, 1996 and April 27th, 1998, in the City of Peterborough, and
elsewhere in the Province of Ontario did unlawfully and without lawful excuse interfere
with radiocommunication by interfering with link repeater systems contrary to the
provisions of section 9(1)(a) of the Radiocommunication Act, R.S.C. 1985 Chapter 4-2, as
mended and did thereby commit an offence under section 10(1)(a) of the said Act.
Count 3:
And further that Christopher Watson
between January 1st, 1998 and April 27th, 1998, in the City of Peterborough, and elsewhere
in the Province of Ontario, did unlawfully and without lawful excuse send false and
fraudulent messages and calls on the radiocommunication system of the Ministry of
Transportation contrary to the provisions of sections 9(1)(a) and 9(1)(b) of the
Radiocommunication Act, R.S.C. 1985 Chapter 4-2, as amended, and did thereby commit an
offence under section 10(1)(a) of the said Act.
The sentence imposed was
a $500.00 fine and 3 years probation. The terms of the probation include that he is to
keep the peace and be of good behaviour and not to posses any radio apparatus that is
capable of transmitting any messages, tones, communications of any description except for
ordinary household telephone equipment (the latter not including cellular telephones).
Any radio equipment in
the possession of the Crown to be forfeited to the Crown
