VE3KSR ANTENNA UPDATE
Due to the winter weather there has not been a lot of activity on the technical side of the club. We are hoping for a break in the weather when we can change the antenna and feedline at VE3KSR.

PL on KSR
Contrary to local Rumours, no changes were made to VE3KSR's transmit tone. Something has malfunctioned and the tone is now on all the time whereby before it was on only on an incoming signal.

VE3IXY
The 220 repeater, VE3IXY was dead for a couple of days and suddenly it returned to the air. We suspect that the power cord may have been reomoved by others using the site.

NEW TOWER SITE
The Bell Canada site at Mannheim has been made available to the club and it is a really great site for us. There is emergency power there as well as a 150 foot tower. Thanks to Ben VA3BNY who made all the contacts with the Bell people to gain access for us.

We are hoping to move some of the packet equipment to that site and we also want to move VE3RCK there as well. VE3RCK is presently at a site in downtown Kitchener that is very difficult to gain access to and the space we have is so crowded that it is difficult to do any work there.

PL or Not to PL KSR
Ben VA3BNY has been asking for comments on the motion to add CTCSS tone to the receiver of VE3KSR. If the members want htis to be done, you will need to transmit 131.8 Hz at all times to access VE3KSR. Older radio's that dont have a CTCSS (P.L.) module in them would have to be modified before they could access VE3KSR if this proposal is implemented. (click here for more details)

John VE3AMZ is working on a hardware design that "MAY" overcome this problem at the repeater but there are no guarantees that this will work to solve the problem of older rigs. Simply put, a 4 digit Touch-Tone sequence would be sent and this would disable the need for tone to access VE3KSR, however it is only a theory at this time.

We will be discussing this issue at the next KWARC meeting so we ask for your comments either way on this matter. The proposal to add CTCSS would effectively close the repeater too all those except those who can transmit 131.8 Hz.
