This beacon is back on the air as of Sunday evening March 21, 1999. Our thanks to the group up north for the work and a special thanks Mr. René Boisvert from Env Canada and to Capt. Gauthier for co-ordinating the installation.

The new site is located Latitude - Longitude : 79° 59' 00" N - 85° 57' 00" W NTS Map : 049G00 At Eureka, Nunavut ( Formerly N W T ), Canada. Which will be just a bit south of Alert, Nunavut ( Formerly N W T ), Canada. ( of course every thing is south of Alert ... hi hi )

There are several sites with pictures of this northern area search for "Eureka NWT" or "Eureka Nunavut"

Background on Beacons
The beacon project was the creation of the Northern California DX Foundation NCDXF

The first beacon was designed in 1979 by Jim Ouimet K6OJO. It is based on the suggestions by O.G. Mike Villard, Jr. W6QYT.

This beacon operates on 14.100, 18.110, 21.150, 24.930, 28.200 MHz.

It will transmit every 3 minutes. The callsign of the beacon is sent in Morse code at 22 words per minute. It is followed by four dashes.

The callsign and first dash are sent at 100 watts with the remaining dashes sent at 10 watts, 1 watt, and 0.1 watt.

The beacon consists of a Kenwood TS-50S transceiver, a modified Cushcraft R-5 vertical antenna, a Trimble Navigation Accutime

GPS receiver and a custom controller built by NCDXF volunteers. This will allow the listener to monitor all 18 beacons in three minutes.
