VE3AMG
"All Mouth and Gab"
by John VE3AMZ

VE3AMG, George Scantlebury (SK) held this call since the thirties. He was a very close friend of mine since 1958. He was very active on all bands and could work the world on a windom type dipole much to the consternation of most Stratford Hams.

George was very active on two metres and will be remembered for his long winded talks and would wander form the microphone as he described something.

He was a Ham's Ham having to make his own Capacitors in the early days and always kept the case off his rig so he could align it as required.

George had a heart of gold and would give you anything that he had. You would always be welcome at his home in Stratford if you dropped by.

He became a "silent-key" about ten years ago and his family held on to his call for many years but some time ago released it. About a month ago, I applied for VE3AMG and to-day the license arrived in the mail. It will be used here from time to time in memory of George.

I will continue to use VE3AMZ most of the time but if you hear V E 3 A M G (George called it "All Mouth & Gab"), it's only AMZ remembering a dear friend.

73 John VE3AMZ
