Spread spectrum communications was initially conceived by a well known Hollywood actress during the period of the second world war. She theorized that if the transmitter and receiver were continually changing frequency together and only transmitting small portion of the message on any particular frequency at a time it would be very difficult for the enemy to decode the message or even to know it had been passed. A prototype was suggested whereby the transceivers would be controlled by means of a paper tape to determine the frequency hopping algorithm, but the idea was rejected as 'impractical' by the military strategists of the time. Who was this actress? Come to the meeting to find out.
