VE3AVY is Back!

Those who have been around KWARC prior to the early 80’s will recall that your editor was formerly VE3AVY. With the proposed changes to the administration of Call Signs that will see the elimination of annual fees, I thought I would see if my original call was available.

ve3avyshack.jpg (41592 bytes)A quick call to the local Industry Canada office determined that it was and following a fax requesting the call (along with the fee for this year) I had VE3AVY back.

The proposed regulations indicate that all call signs held by an individual or club will be grand fathered under the new regulations and with no "proposed" annual fee the call will be yours.

If you have changed your call over the years and wish to see if your old call is available you can check the RAC web site for the latest database at http://www.rac.ca/callbook/    If your not on the web you can call the Kitchener office of Industry Canada and ask for Jane to arrange completing the application form.

I became nostalgic after coming across a picture of my first station (above). Thats a Heath Comache Receiver (left) and a DX60 (center) and a VF1 VFO complete with the nice harmonic in the 5 mhz aircraft band and I got the Pink Ticket to prove it   The chasis on the right was my home brew keyer that used a 12AT7.  If you look close you can see a QSL card from Ed Beatty VE3BFH
