The Meeting
The History of Microphones
by Bill Graham VE3ETK

ve3etk.jpg (3396 bytes)Your Guest speaker at the October 4 meeting will be fellow KWARC member Bill Graham VE3ETK Bill tells me that he can not remember when he was not interested in radio. His earliest recollections are of playing with his parent’s large cabinet radio (that’s the ones that had a fascinating green eye on the front) and soon discovered that there were short wave bands on it. He was promptly forbidden to switch to them, the second world war was on and his parents believed that it was illegal to listen to other countries. The AM band provided the CBC, the Red Network and the Blue Network (now NBC), The Mutual Network, and a host of other powerful stations with fascinating programs.

Bill had become hooked!

Eventually Bill joined CFPL-TV in its very early years, and his career was under way. A few years later when the fledging CTV Network began, Bill moved to Toronto to obtain a commercial license to work on high power transmitters. In turn, that led to him becoming the Chief Engineer to CHYM Radio when it took over from CKWR here in Kitchener. Bill has had a long and successful career in broadcasting and related fields and is very busy now operating his own consulting company. In a recent project, he was part of a team that rebuilt the NBC television in Singapore. Bill will be doing a presentation on "The History of Microphones." During his career, Bill has acquired many styles and types of microphones, all having some significance in his life. Together with a visual and audio presentation, and a few memorable pieces which Bill plans to bring, we will be treated to a historical evening on microphones that guaranteed, you will not want to miss this Meeting.
