FEBRUARY 7th 2000
7:30 – 9:30pm

The Kitchener-Waterloo Amateur Radio Club (KWARC) was first founded in 1922 just two short years after the World’s first radio Station KDKA went on the air from Pittsburgh Pennsylvania.   In the mid 1930s, the Ham Radio clubs from Galt and Guelph joined with the Kitchener Club to become the Progressive Radio Club.  We’ve come a long way since then and we encourage you to join us on February 7th  to learn more about this great hobby.

OUR MEETINGS
KWARC presents top class speakers who present informative sessions from all areas of our hobby. Our Program Director continues to maintain the same high caliber lineups in the 1999-2000 year.

REPEATERS
KWARC provides it’s members 4 voice repeaters as well as access to the world wide packet network. A 911 Open Phone Patch service is offered on most repeaters providing peace of mind while our members traverse the Region. Optional full patch privileges provides local telephone calling which is now enjoyed by almost 70% of our membership.  And now with extended reciprocal agreements with Brantford and Simcoe, your Patch value goes even further.

KILOWATTER
KWARC deliver a quality publication on-time each month has been met and will continue to be a priority.  Today KWARC serves over 150 members from the KW area with monthly meetings and newsletter as well as an extensive web Site located at kwarc.org.

THE ULR NETWORK
All KWARC members also enjoy the use of the ULR network which links VE3KSR with most major centers in Southern Ontario. Now with a handheld radio you can talk to your buddy in downtown Kingston, Toronto, Collingwood, Kincardine and many more locations in the province.

PACKET RADIO
KWARC and the clubs packet group provide access to the world wide packet network. Through the generosity of Tedd Dodda VE3TJD, KWARC members also enjoy the services of the VA3ASED BBS and other packet BBS stations around the world.

BEGINNERS CLASSES
Each Winter KWARC provides a beginners class providing a teaching environment to anyone wishing to become a Radio Amateur. Our pass rate has averaged over 90%. demonstrating the caliber of instruction from our dedicated instructors.  At a cost of $100.00 including tuition and all books.  With a licence in hand, a good used 2 metre radio can be purchased for under $200 making Ham Radio an exceptional value for such an exciting hobby.

THE World Wide Web
On September 1st 1996, we entered Cyberspace with the inauguration of the KWARC web site.  This addition to KWARC services has been visited by amateurs and interested parties around the world over 60,000 times .
